The book starts when Rosie and Ryan are on the airport. They are there to pick up their best friend Maddie, who has spend the summer in Spain for a summer program. Rosie's goal for now is to be a better friend for her then the previous school year. But at the start of this new school year, Maddie starts hooking up with a football player,  who Rosie used to date over the summer. Rosie wants to see her best friend happy, she doesn't make an issue of it. And then Alex moves to town. Rumor has it he is seen as quite a hero at his old high school, because he prevented a school shooting.Rosie is drawn to Alex in a way she’s never experienced before—and she is surprised to discover that, unlike every other guy, he seems to see more to her than her beauty.

But then she, Maddie and Cory are attending a party at someone's house, on the night that a devastating storm races through the town. It is just at that moment that Maddie's new football player boyfriend harrasses her Rosie when the lights fall out. After that, Rosie and Maddie's friendship falls apart. Rosie blames herself, feeling guilty for catching his attention.Rosie has to find out how to get her best friend back, navigate her feelings for the new boy in town, and admit to herself—and everyone else—what really happened that horrible night at the party.

I really liked the storyline of this book. Altough it was a bit slow at some points, it was enjoyable. Rosie was very likeable, she absolutely didn't come over to me as a girl who knows that she is pretty and makes use of it. I thought she really overthought everything and truly wanted to remain her friendship with Maddie. But was Maddie worth her friendship? I think Maddie was acting quite odd herself at some times, and it was just odd that Maddie didn't believe it wasn't Rosie's fault that Cory assaulted her. The friendship between Alex and Rosie was enjoyable and cute. The ending was also very good, a nice conclusion to a good read!
