Publication date: July 11th 2017

Karin and her husband are finding themselves in the aftermath of the banking and housing crisis of 2008, where they both lost their job and now are on the brink of losing their LA home. What to do now, how can they shape their future with their young son?

They step into uncertainty when they decide to prove their luck with a move to Vietnam, a country they have traveled years earlier and that they truly liked.

There they find out that it is slowly turning into the right decision. Vietnam is totally different then their life in LA, and altough they lack certain things, they learn to live without it and to live with more simple things can lead to an even happy, and in Vietnam and even more fulfilling live, even though they live in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Ho Chi Minh City and they don't want to mix with the usual expats. They meet their neighbors, who turn into good friends and family who got each others back  something they didn't have in this kind of way back in LA. For work, they start teaching English. During their years in Vietnam, they start to love their life truly, and as a reader you just fell in love with Vietnam and the amazing Vietnamese people.

This is a very entertaining book that paints a first hand picture what its like to live like a foreigner in Vietnam. Karin Estherhammer writes in a fun and entertaining way with respect about Vietnam and about the people in her new life once she moved there. It is so moving how different it is in firsthand (first of all, the heat in Vietnam is something to get used to) but the people she meets in her street are so kind and truly become family which was just beautiful, the community feeling is much more stronger then she experienced in Los Angeles, which is truly one of the many amazing good things about Vietnam.

I truly enjoyed this fun and entertaining memoir, recommended for everyone who loves travel books,, let this book carry you away to Vietnam!!
