Mari Turner is a teen who has thousands of followers on Instagram. They follow her picture perfect life of health eating and living. What her follower's don't know is that this isn't the real Mari. The real Mari is just a normal teen. And the healthy lifestyle is just posed for the pictures.
Her cousin and best friend Bri died not long ago, and when Mari is experiencing an emotional breakdown, she makes a private youtube video where she tells everything she ever wanted to say to Bri, where she confesses she’s been living a li,that she isn’t the happy, in love, inspirational online personality she’s been trying so hard to portray. But then she accidentally posts it online and discovers her posting mistake too late; the video has gone viral.
The same day, she receives a package from her aunt with Bri's boots and travel diary with her plans to hike the John Muir trail that she died training for. Bri and Mari where supposed to hike the John Muir trail together. In a moment after her online scandal, Mari comes up with an idea; she will hike the trail alone. With Bri's shoes, planning and diary she goes on her way. It's a challenging and difficult trail, but with Bri's help trougher her written diary it goes well. During the hike she meets a group of other hikers who become friends or just help her find her way. But mostly she has to find the way back to hersef..
This book was good. It started of right away, and it was quite a nice hike all the way through it. You can question if it is a right decision by Mari to do the hike alone,to me it seemed pretty dangerous and naive for a girl on her own. Especially when Bri had to train intensively for the hike and died in the middle of it, can Mari do this without any? But beside that, the hike Mari and the author takes you own witch was entetaining. Mari learns ad lot about herself and about Bri during the hike, and that was an interesting thing. The hike is anything but easy, but in the she did it for herself and for Bri.
One of the members of the group of teens she meets during the hike, becomes sweet love interest in the form of Josh. The romance was just a small part, but it really added to the story.
Overall The Other Side of Lost isa nice and light YA novel with a more serious red line through it.
