It's the middle of the sixth grade school year and guess what? Mattie Markham has to leave her life behind because her parent's have decided to move in with her grandma in Pennsylvania. Her grandma has health issues and her parent's think it is better for her to have some family close by to help her.

Mattie has to make new friends at school now. She makes a new friend with her next door neighbor who is also in her new class; Agnes. Agnes seems normal from the outside, but soon enough Mattie discovers that Agnes does many things a little different then others, is this why at school nobody likes her? But she also learns that Agnes thinks up the best games, is smart and just so funny, she always makes her laugh! But how is Mattie going to fit in at her new school when she is friends with a girl no one likes? This gives some problems when some popular girls want to be friends with Mattie, does she has to give up her friendship with Agnes to fit in?

Let's Pretend We Never Met is a book for middle grade girls with a good plot. Mattie's live makes a big change in the first part, which at her age, can be huge! I think many can relate to her, as we all had this kinds of experience in school (well, most of us). Mattie learns some good lessons because of Agnes; how to be a good friend and you don't have to fit in with the crowd to be a good person. And as if this isn't enough her parents also are cleaning out her grandma's out with all her personal treasures that Mattie loves so much, her mother is struggling with her job, that gives quite some tension between her parents.
So overall, there are a lot of challenges for Mattie in the story. But her friend Agnes, who seems to be having social anxiety, seems to be just the right friend at the right time to get her trough it.

Overall it is an adorable book with some serious topics, recommended if you are looking for a more serious middle grade read!
