Dixie Nguyen is a fifteen year old, adopted Vietnamese orphan. He is the star reporter of the school paper, so when he witnesses popular jocks shooting up what appear to be drugs in the locker room, he is certain he is having a great revealing story in his hands. He starts researching this undercover. But then the school board and his parents are seeing him as a drug user.
Because the jocks are bullying him, his goal is to reveal their drugs cartel. The school paper editor wants him to cover only the school's homecoming and proms events, so Dixie has to keep his plans undercover. He soon discovers that the scandal extends beyond the football team to something far bigger and more sinister than he ever thought possible.
Once he follows the guidelines of his hero, Mel Nichols (journalism professor at Fresno State University and author of the textbook Elementary Journalism) this high school reporter just might save the world. That is, of course, if Dixie can stay out of juvenile hall, the hospital, and new age therapy long enough to piece it all together.
What to say about Sophomore Undercover..hmm.. It was hard to get into the story in the first place, and as for me, this lasted the whole book long. I think you have to like this eccentric style of writing, which was certainly different, I have to give the author credit for this.
But did I liked it?No, it wasn't my cup of tea. The story of Dixie Nguyen wasn't worked out quite well, and I had a lot of question marks while reading it. It just wasn't my book and my type of humour!
