There are a lot of great books wich are about China, I am reading one now at the moment, Factory Girls by Leslie T.Chang.
This book is about young girls in rural China, who travel to the cities to find work to support their family. Mostly they are going to work in clothing of toy factories. A look into the life of girls like this was also featured in the PBS documentary China Blue.
It is a really interesting and stunning book!
