Lifted by Wendy Toliver

Poppy Browne has moved with her mom to the little town of Pleasant Acres, Texas. Poppy starts at her new high school, and soon makes new friends. First she becomes friends with Bridgette, a non-popular girl, but a few days later, the popular Whitney (daughter of the pastor) and Mary Jane invite Poppy to go with them to the mall.

It doesn't take much time for Poppy than to know better then that she has known Whitney and Mary Jane all her life. A few trips later to the mall, Whitney and Mary Jane introduce Poppy in their rules of taking things out of stores without paying. Poppy doesn't dare to say no to her new friends, and soon she has the pair of designer jeans of 196 dollar she so badly wanted! But most of all, she enjoys the high feeling and kick of the shoplifting, and soon her room is just like the ones of Whitney and Mary Jane; filled with the best stuff and a closet full of expensive clothes.

But then, someone calls Poppy's mom to tell her her daughter is a criminal, and that is the start of Poppy's world falling apart, and altough she doesn't pay for things in stores, the price she has to pay is high, and is it worth it?

Wendy Toliver has written an amazing novel with Lifted. I loved her book Miss Match, so I was very excited to read about her new book Lifted. The danger of a story for teens about shoplifting is that it becomes too educational instead of entertaining fiction. This isn't the point with Lifted, it just is a real page turner! The story starts a bit slowly, but once you're in it, you can't stop. The book really lived up my expectations of it, I thought it was even better than I hoped it was and I am very curious for Wendy's next book!
