In the land of cotton by Martha A.Taylor


In the land of cotton describes the life of the author Martha A. Taylor, as a young girl growing up during a time of racial segregation and the Civil Rights movement in the Deep South of the United States.
Her parents have their own thoughts about colored people, but they take in Lucy, a young girl who is going to work for the family as a housekeeper.
Martha's curiosity is born, and when Lucy stops working for Martha's family, she tries to find out where Lucy lives, and then a new world opens up for her. She meets Lucy's lovely family, and meets Lucy's cousin Silas. A real friendship is born, and when they grew older, they are dating. But then, the Vietnam war starts and Silas is send to the war zone. Wich leads to a very tragic end.
In the land of cotton is a must read for everyone who is interested in this very important period in the history of the United States. It is also a novel wich describes how terrible racism and segregation can be. A books that keeps your interest from page one.
