The fifteen year old southern girl Rose is a girl who is happy with her life with her family in South Carolina in 1899. Then the day comes when she hears she has to marry to save her family from money problems. She meets the whealthy silk businessman Rene, and he takes her with him to Brooklyn, a new city near New York.
They are going to live in his townhouse, and they have servants. But is this making Rose happy in Brooklyn and will she ever love her new husband?

A historical novel, but easy to read for young teens as well. The story is short and in diary form wich makes it very easy to read. I loved the little story of Brooklyn Rose. It has a little sad side also that this kind of things, young girls going away from home to marry a whealthy man they almost don't know to help their family. Based on the real grandparents of Ann Rinaldi.
