Bliss Cavendar is a girl who lives in the little Texas town Bodeen. Her mother is a strict beauty pageant mom, and Bliss has to enter the local Miss Bluebonnet pageant (against her will ofcourse). Bliss is the kind of misfit girl in town. Her best friend is Pash, and together they work at the Oink Joint cafetaria and ride across town in the Pashmobile. One day during a shopping trip for a pageant dress, Bliss spots an flyer for a roller derby team in nearby Austin which is having try outs. Bliss wants to try out for the team and secretly goes to the try out event with Pash.
Afterr a shaky start, Bliss is really into the rollerskate derby game!
And then the sneaking out of the house start by telling her parents she is doing SAT prep courses and is staying at Pash. And then she meets Oliver, a local music bandmember at one of the roller derby afterparties.. But besides all this she gets in trouble too and is her best friendship with Pash under pressure. And she has to keep up appearrances for her parents..
Whip it is one of the most funny new YA novels out. Bliss narrating voice is just really hilarious and makes it a fast paced laugh out loud novel. Besides that its a story of a young girl who finds out where she is good at, and who is getting out under the wrath of her beauty pageant obsessed mom. I loved every single word of this book and can't wait to see the movie!
