The penniles Marianne begs a ship that is sailing of to Denmark to take her with them.

When she arrives after a though journey with a sailorman that can't keep their hands of her, she arrives in the town of Skagen, where she is told her father must be living. But where must she go, she doesn't speak Danish, doesn't know anybody. Soon she finds a no paying job at the home of a very poor family, the Jakobsens.

The mother of the family is apathic from post-natal depression, the father drinks, and they don't take care of their children who are covered in lice She makes friends, with Mikkel, and Hannah.
Then she finds out some more facts about her father and her uncle, and that is threathening her friendship with Mikkel. Later she befriends fisherman Peter, and she gets a new job, but with that new job, new problems seem to arise. Will she find her father and is she able to make a living in Denmark?

I got a review copy recently of Between Two Seas, I truly didn't know what to expect, I even never heard of the author Marie Louise Jensen before.
This is a book you don't want to miss. I LOVED this book! The story of Marianne was so gripping and every minute there was something unexpected and stunning happening in the story.

Marianne's life is full of tragic events, but she really stays strong and she is really progressing during the story.
It isn't often that I read novels so brilliant as Between Two Seas. Marie Louise Jensen is half British, half Danish, and she really knows the Danish culture. I haven't seen another teen novel about Denmark before, so it is very original too. Just an excellent historical teen novel.
