On a regular normal day, Alice, a mother of two adult daughters, walks into the sea, to be found dead later by the coast guard. Daughter Lily is called by a worried friend who watched Alice's dog, but Alice never picked her up again. Lily calls her distant sister Marietta, and together they are trying to find out what happened to their mother. Was it an accident, suicide or did someone killed Alice? They have a hard time walking the traces of Alice's life, as they where not always very close to her.
I was very surprised by how much I liked this book! This was also a book that was on my ereader for a few years, and now I finally had the time to read it! The storyline is good, and it reads somewhat like a cozy mystery that isn't too scary or graphic. At firsthand, till the end of the story, it feels though that the parts of the two daughters of Alice and the police officer have nothing in common and are two seperate stories, but in the end it comes together, to be wrapped up in a good and logical ending and conclusion. The characters feel realistic and are well crafted, and the mystery storyline is very believable. There is not a lot more I have to say about this book, then that I liked it if you are in for a good English detective novel.
At the same time, police officer Fox is working on a case of a little boy who was found dead twenty years ago, and somehow he never found a real suspect in this unsolved case. But determined to solve it, he finally finds some leads, and that leads him in the end to a suspect who was linked to Alice, who was the mother of this boy, are the deaths of Alice and the little boy linked?
