Room to Dream (Front Desk #3) by Kelly Yang.

Publisher: Scholastic
Exp.Publication date: September 21th 2021
Pages: 320

In this third book in the Front Desk series by Kelly Yang, Mia's parents are still the proud owners of the Calivista Motel in Anaheim, close to Disneyland.

After years of hard work to build up the good name of the motel, Mia and her parents are going on a vacation for the first time in years! They are going on a far away travel..to China! There they finally see their family, cousins and her granparents back again, which they have seen last when they moved to the USA years earlier. Here she sees the big changes China is going through, while there are also some pretty big changes in her own life. For one, her best friend Lupe is taking classes at the high school, and notifies Mia in a bit of a cold way that she doesn't have time to hang around with her and to work with her at the front desk of the motel. The motel itself has to do with a big chance itself too. When the family and Hank arrive back home, they find that a big hotel chain has bought the building next to the Calivista, and things are not looking good as the big hotel is putting the motel in its shadow, especially with all the sharp bright lamps that are shining into the Calivista's residents bedrooms. To make matters worse, the cleaning lady of the motel walks over to the big hotel to work because they pay better, and the hotel is making false bad statements of the Calivista's cleanliness in commercials, but Mia wouldn't be our heroine is she know a smart way to make the big hotel stop and give the Calivista that is a motel with a big heart its good name back. But then the big chain talks with the investers that they are interested in buying the Calivista, the place her parents worked hard for to make it become what it is, and the permanent residents and all the staff that has become family over the years, will it all be gone soon?

Room To Dream is an amazing new addition to an already amazingly good and original book series for middle grade readers. Again Kelly Yang delivered a  very original and out of the box brilliantly good book, double thumbs up!! Everything in this book is so realistic. Mia's Chinese roots are also a red line in the book, because of her trip to China. It paints a real picture of third generation immigrant children, in America she doesn't feel she fits in, but in China she is seen now as American. But Mia is so positive and only is looking forward, and just fights the obstacles in her life like a true hero! The friendship between her and Lupe and her relationship with Jason Yao (is it friendship or more?) are also a big part of this story. I truly hope we get to know what's going to happen when they are going to high school in the 4th book. I hope this series will have many sequels, as it is just outstanding!!
