To The Mountain by Erik Raschke

Publisher: Torrey House Press

Publication: February 2nd 2021

Marshall is an eleven year old boy who lives in a juvenile center in a remote part of Colorado. It is not very clear for the reader why he is living there or what kind of juvenile center it is until later in the story. He doesn't have a very nice life there; he is badly bullied and the juvenile center comes over as a cold desolate place. All the sounds, smells and impressions are overwhelming Marshall. The only one who understands him and who he trust is Leslie, one of the staff members.

Things take a turn in Marshall's life when due to circumstances he lands missing in the wilderness in the  Colorado mountains. His father Jace, who learned Marshall how to survive in the wilderness starts a search for Marshall in the mountains and in alternating chapters we read about the harsh  weather conditions they both find themselves. In alternating chapters beside what's happening in the present in the mountains, we learn about Marshall's past, his disability, and the reader gets to see things from his perspective.

I really liked the story of this new book by Erik Raschke, I have read his first book The Book of Samuel which was a very good book, and this book is just as good!

Marshall's story and all the people that are related to him in the story was interesting to read. The story is written in a very good way, you really wonder as a reader if everything will turn out for the better in the end for Marshall and Jace, especially during their time in the mountains. It is not a very long story, but it is a very good one!
