Fifteen year old Frankie Brooks has just one goal; she wants to become the next great fashion editor for a fashion magazine. To reach this goal, she has applied to the American Fashion Academy in New York. So she is very happy when her parents show her a big envelope with her acceptance letter to..the military academy??
Her parents are done with Frankie's reckless and pointless behaviour without focus and think she might need some serious discipline training. Especially she was caught having a party at her house against their permission. Then she can do whatever she wants afterwards. Yeah right. She just wants to be the next Anna Wintour, thank you very much.
But she has to go to the military academy, if she likes it or not. In the beginning it is very hard for her, but her new roommate is very nice and she also makes some real friends. The academics are very diffucult and odd. Especially this War Games competition they have to win. All she wants is to be sent home as soon as possible, as this cleary isn't her cup of tea. But soon she finds out that she might be good in this field, especially when there is some romance coming up during her stay at the academy. Maybe this is what she really needed after all?
The Academy is a fun, entertaining and light hearted book. Frankie starts as a spoiled brat, but later on she really turns into a different and better person who feels quilty for how she acted. The moment when her parents reveal her academic plans for her was just so funny. Her time at the academy and everything that happens there was interesting. The thing that stood out where the new friends she made though. That really was fun to read. Especially Joni, Frankie truly can't figure her out in the beginning but she turns out to be a real friend. And there also is room for some romance beside the classes and the early drills and workouts. This part was not very special or outstanding, but it was a nice addition to the story.
Overall a funny read that will put a smile on your face!
