Olivia Blakely is working hard to make her life as perfect as possible. Her politician father just announced he is a candidate to become an important governor and now the pressure if full on her family to paint a picture-perfect image. Her parents have very high expectations of her. In her high school life, the pressure goes on: she is the youngest of her class and is aiming to be accepted into an art school. Besides that she has her eyes on celebrity guy Zach, who is also older then her. But then he invites her to the hottest party of the year and things seem to work out for the two of them. But more and more she starts to doubt when the press pictures her with Zach and this is bad for her father's carefully set up campaign. And then she finds out that Zach is seeing his ex Cristina again. But with her best friends, things go wrong, as she slowly is pushing them away.
All the pressure in Olivia's live is building up to a point that she starts binge eating, and throwing up afterwards, the first steps in developing a serious case of bulimia. When the stress becomes to much, she also starts to cut herself. Things totally spiral out of control but luckily she get's the help of her family and two best friends.
I have previously read other books by Melissa De La Cruz, and this one was no exception as in how much I like them!! Again this one was completely different then her previous outstandingly good book Something in Between but the storyline, characters and writing where just as good! This book had a more serious undertone though, as some of the topics in the book are eating disorders, depression and self harm. I haven't read about this topics in many YA books this way, so this was very original. Altough the storyline wasn't anything that I haven't read before in other books, I liked it a lot and it was very entertaining, I think because Olivia was just a very likeable girl who could just be you or your best friend.
Alltogether this book lived up my expectations. It is a good new YA novel that deals with some serious topics, I recommed reading it!
