The book follows completely the line and dialogues of the movie, the only difference is that the book doesn't only shows Cady's point of view, but alternates between the ones of Janis, Damian, Gretchen, Regina and some others.
Cady Heron just moved with her scientist parents from Africa to Illinois. She never went to a normal school because she was homeschooled. Now she lands in the urban jungle of North Shore High School, which is a complete culture shock. She soon makes two new friends, Janis and Damian. Both are outcasts in the social clique system of the school, which is ruled by a small group of girls nicknamed The Plastics: Regina, Gretchen and Karen.Strange enough, Cady meets one of them in the first week of school. The Plastics think she is pretty and cool enough to be invited in their midst, and sit and their lunch table from now on. This surprises Cady, Janis and Damian so much that they come up with a plan. Cady, who firstly doesn't seem to be impressed by the invitation of The Plastics. The plan is that Cady will infilitrate and later on sabotage The Plastics, to finally put them in their right place; down! But then Cady falls in love with Aaron, the ex-boyfriend of Regina. And she soon finds out that in contrast to the savannah in Africa, the high school world doesn't have any set rules, and she soon is caught in a loyality battle between her friends and The Plastics.
The book is just as fun as the movie. I really liked how it is turned into a novel that is a fast paced read. The alernating pov works very well for this book and you just can imagine the scenes from the movie all over again, as the characters say the same exact things and behave in the same exact way as in the movie. In this book though there where some things added such as text message exchanges, announcements from the school and random diary entries, like from Regina's mother. who seems to have a daytime job pampering Regina. The storyline is just so much fun, we all had some kind of a group like The Plastics in high school (in my school they where there!) and you just wish you had the guts to do to them what Cady, Janis and Damian did.
Overall I really liked reading it and if you like the movie, this is a book not to miss!
