Shannon Hammer is one of the best and well known contractors in Lighthouse Cove, California. The annual Victorian Home and Garden Tour is coming up, and the wealthy homeowners are standing in line to make their home the most pretty one, to win the competition. Luckily, she gets some help from new staff that she hired, who are sometimes friends of her, as she is quite popular in the small town.
They are hired to work on the home of the snobby and difficult Petsy Jorgenson, who is determined to win the grand money prize attached to the competition. Sharon is appointed to work on some delicate fixtures in her house and orangery. But when one morning she arrives at the workplace, she is met by an ear deafening scream of one of her coworkers. The building's inspector is found dead in the orangery. Together with the police inspector, Shannon goes on a little private sleuting to find out who is the murderer, and pretty soon finds out some dark family secrets about one of her best friends, who is without her knowing, involved in it.
If you are in for a well written, fast paced and fun cozy mystery, this is the book for you. I was in for a different read and genre, so I picked up this review copy. I really liked the storyline with all the different characters, and the way Shannon tried to solve the mystery was very good. In some books, this type of person makes mistakes and all that, but not this one. She acted very carefully and this leads to a very good unraveling of the murderer and conclusion of the book. I also liked the small town feel of the story which made it very cozy, just the perfect setting for a cozy mystery!
Overall a very nice read that I recommend reading!
