Dr. Cat Lupo is living happily with her husband Tom and her young daughter Freya in London. Cat works as a child psychologist for a government organisation for children with serious behavioral issues.

At one night her once so calm home life is abrubtly disturbed when a police car stops in front of their house and rings the bell of her house. In front of the door are a police officer, a social worker and a young girl. An hour later she learns that the young girl is Tom's daughter Ruby, and that her mother Lily has died in a tragic carbonmonoxide accident in their Brixton flat. Her trust in Tom is gone, and slowly on, this grows into more distrust. Especially because of Ruby has no other place to live than with them, and is slowly setting up Freya and Tom against her. Some strange events happen, and one way or another Ruby and Tom are always involved. This goes so far that one night Cat has enough of it and falls out against Ruby. Ruby and Tom make quite a scene of it and accuse her of domestic violence and psychosis. She is forced out of her home and searched for by the police. In the end this leads to a thrilling unraveling who was behind the murder of Ruby's mother Lily and a frantic search for her daughter Freya, who is lured into a sick plan by Ruby and a boy with agression issues who falls under Cat's counseling. Hopefully she is in time to safe her daughter from a terrible event in the London underground...

Sometimes I just want to read something else than YA fiction and decided to give this book a go. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this book was. It was very entertaining and thrilling, and I had no idea what would happen on the next page. It was just chilling to read how the marriage between Cat and Tom crumbled apart and what a creep Tom and Ruby actually where. I liked the pace and the way it was written, it really leaves no clue of what will happen next, which I loved in this book. Without giving too much spoilers away, I recommend to read this page turning thriller, I enjoyed reading it!
