Rachel Brooks is one of the best players on the school soccer team, and this year she has earned her place as a forward, something she worked hard for the past years. And most of all she is excited to see her best friends again, who always got her back.
But it's her back who destroys all the plans for the new schoolyear: at an appointment at the scoliosis docter, he lets her and her mother know that her scoliosis has gotten worse. The only thing to beat this is that she has to wear a brace, 24 hours a day.
The brace is made of hard plastic that itches and covers her from her hips to her shoulders. Not only that, it will also change the way her clothes look, and how other people, including her friends and that cute guy Tate, will see her. But most of all it will have an impact on how much she will be able to play soccer, if she is still able to do so with the brace at all. But luckily most of her friends seem to be quite understandible and supportive, and most of all, Rachel has to learn to accept it.
Wow, what a super nice and well written book is this! It is written in a way that it is very entertaining for all age groups. As I have a chronic illness myself, I recognized a lot in what Rachel had to go through: the endless doctor's visits, bad news from doctors, friends who either support you more or let you down, your family that also has to come to terms with it and most of all, how to accept it. The author did a great job portraying all this. It was so amazing to read how Rachel dealt with scoliosis, she relly got my respect!! And her friends where just amazing, and it was nice how everything was concluded in the end of the book. I enjoyed every minute reading this book, excelllently written, great characters and storyline, highly recommend reading this gem of a book!
