Sydney's has a normal teen life when suddenly everything in her life is turned upside down. Her brother, who was always acting normal but the last few years has become a troubled teen with reckless behavior, is the cause of a bad traffic accident, that left the victim paralyzed for life. All because he was driving while he was drunk.
What follows for Peyton is sentence in jail.
When this starts, Sydney feels lost. Her parents are so occupied by Peyton that the almost don't have time for her. They all feel quilty for what happened. They make the drastic decision to switch from her small private school to Jackson High School to alleviate some financial pressure on her parents, and this is where she meets the Chatham family. Even though they don't know Sydney very well, she is immediately accepted into their inner circle and finds support here. The Chatham's run a pizza place in town, and it's there that Sydney is able to put her mind a little out of her home situation, and she starts helping to deliver pizza's. Mostly together with Mac Chatham who will make her feel more loved than her own family ever did.
I found this book to be very different then all the other books by her that I've read. It was darker but also slower. I find it hard to pinpoint what it was that I like this book less then her previous ones. First, I found Sydney's parent's a little odd. They act like the serious accident Peyton caused was just a minor thing, and they acted so weird towards Sydney. The romance between Sydney and Mac was okay, but it started so slow that you almost forgotten it at some points. At the end it was finally sure to me they where dating, but then the book ended all of a sudden. I don't know, it just felt like the story was missing something.
