Amber is a teen in deep trouble, and because of this she spends a day all alone at the beach.During the story, which is written in verse, the reader starts to learn more about why Amber wants to be alone.
She is in the middle of a custody process: she is accidentally switched by birth at the hospital where she was born. The other girl died of acute leukemia, and now her parents want their real daughter back. They keep sending Amber letters how much they love her and want to know her and that she has to live with them. But she really doesn't want to meet them and say farewell to her old life.
At the beach she meets Cade, who is having his own crisis at the time: tomorrow he has to go to the hospital. His father needs a new liver, and Cade is his donor.trying to have one ‘fun’ day before their lives change in the morning. Both Amber and Cade will be facing life changing events the next day, things that worry them to no end. They find comfort and understanding in one another, feelings that help to launch a relationship.
Firsthand when I start reading I thought, no this isn't my book. It was written in verse and I had to get used to reading a book written in this specific way. But when I continued reading I was getting more and more into the story. Because not everything is told what is happening with Amber beforehand, many things are slowly revealed during the story, sometimes that was bothering me a bit while reading but it was also a great way of writing by the author of not telling everything and keeping little secrets in the story. It was very edgy and I am still a bit curious what will happen next to Amber and Cade..sequel maybe??
Great review!
