Paradise of the blind tells the story of Hang, a twenty year old woman living in Vietnam after the war. It is a hard and difficult time to live in Vietnam and Hang and her family are struggling under the communist government. During the story whe learn more about Hang's family.
The author of the book, Duong Thu Huong is one of the most popular writers in Vietnam. She was born in 1947, and at twenty volunteered to lead a Communist Youth Brigade sent to the front during the Vietnam War. Because of her stand up for human rights and being democratic, Duong Thu Huong was imprisoned without trial in 1991 for her political beliefs.Paradise of the Blind is her fourth novel and her fourth novel to be effectively banned by the Vietnamese government.

The beginning of the book is just a bit hard to get into, but after a while when you learn more about Hang and her family it becomes easier to read. I thought the book was very tragic but really recommended if you like books about Vietnam.
