Author Huynh Quang Nhuong grew up in the highlands if Vietnam, next to the jungle teeming with wildlife. Encounters with tigers, wild hogs, and deadly snakes were as much a part of his life as tending the rice fields while on the back of his pet water buffalo, Tank. Here are fifteen tale that will transport you into a world of lush beauty and terrible danger — and a way of life that is gone forever.
A very nice read about life in Vietnam for younger readers. The story gives a good view of the life of children in Vietnam, full of adventures and animals and family.
In 1997, Huynh published his other book that was titled Water Buffalo Days, which I will review here next. Similar to The Land I Lost, the book focused on his life — more specifically his childhood. Four years later, Huynh died He was the first Vietnamese to write fiction and nonfiction in English.
