Broken Soup by Jenny Valentine

Rowan suddenly gets a photo negative shoved in her hands, by a boy she doesn't know. It is a photograph of her passed away brother Jack.

Rowan lives with her mostly sleeping mom and little sister Stroma, and her parents are divorced so she doesn't see her dad that often. Rowan is the one who takes care of Stroma. The boy who gave her the negative ( with the words: 'I think this is yours') is Harper, and he seems to make a new positive change in her life. Till she finds out a secret that involves Jack and her best friend Bee..

Broken Soup is a very original and more serious YA novel. Rowan is a girl who has to deal with many things: a manic depressive mom, a little sister who asks a lot of her attention and care, the loss of her brother Jack and the effects of that event on her life and the friends and family around her. Between the lines you also read her loneliness and luckily she finds a true friend in Harper. Altough it wasn't really my cup of tea because of some heavy events in the book, it was good, and a recommend novel.
