Kwan believes she has Yin eyes. She sees those who have died and now dwell in the World of Yin. She sees and can talk to ghosts.
In her mid-30s, Olivia, a photographer, is still seeking a meaningful life. She is married to Simon, but after their remove to their new house in San Francisco, their marriage is stranding. Especially after Simon tells Olivia about Elza, his former long term girlfriend, who tragically died.
But the three of them, Olivia, Simon and Kwan, travel to China. Olivia and Simon obviously didn't want to go, but Kwan forces them, because she lies she already has three tickets, and maybe she just wants to solve the trouble between the two, under the name that she wants to see the little Chinese village where she grow up..
The Hundred Secrets Senses is a amazing novel that yoy MUST have on your list, especially if you like book with an Asian theme. (like I do). Because I like Asian/Asian-American books so much I just gave this book a try, and also because Amy Tan is very famous for her books and I heard great things about them.
The story was great, I only was sometimes a little confused in the parts where Kwan had her historical visions, they where just a little bit too much. But the parts in the present time about Olivia and Simon where just great. I really liked how it tells about Chinese culture and the Chinese culture in the United States. I am really looking forward to start reading the second novel by Amy Tan that I bought, the Dutch edition of Saving Fish from Drowning, about four American tourist who mysteriously dissapear in suspicious surroundings in Birma.
