Amor and Summer Secrets by Diana Rodriquez Wallach

The fifteen year old Marina Ruiz is not happy when her parents ship her and her brother Vince off to Puerto Rico to spend the summer with their fathers family. Is it a vacation or is it a "guilt trip"-her father's way of atoning for ignoring his Puerto Rican roots? And now Marina will miss the sweet sixteen party of her best friend!

Instead of partying with her best friends, she is spending the summer in a simple cramped house (with no airconditioning!) on a tropical island with real exhausting tropical temperatures. Marina doesn't speak Spanish, and her relatives don't speak English. And with a cousin, Lily, who seems to have set her eyes on Vince.

Because of boredom, and because Lily really doesn't care, Marina starts heling her aunt with preparing for Lily's QuinceaƱera.
But then she discovers that Lily is talking about her.. Marina also meets Alex, and with that the boredom seems to vanish in the Puerto Rican sun..

If you like books as Sofi's guide for getting lost in Mexico by Malin Alegria, and the How to ruin..series by Simone Elkeles, you will certainly like Amor and summer secrets. And if you haven't read those, just pick this book up!
The story is just amazing and so much fun. I really liked the fun narrative voice, and I really felt the Puerto Rican sun on my head and heard Spanish around me. The characters and storyline are just awesome and real. I definately want to read the next two novels in this series. The perfect spring read!
