Katy has to remove from Montreal,Canada, to Los Angeles to stay at her dad's place for two weeks. Her dad's nickname is The Rat, his punk-rocker name. He is a drummer for the famously infamous rockband Suck. Katy's summer seem to suck too from the beginning on now she has to stay at her dad's while her mom is doing some archeological stuff in Peru. The Rat's house is a grungy mess, and she misses home, and things seems to get worse when her mom is stretching her stay in Peru..
But then she gets to know Lake, the daughter of Sam, another band member of Suck. Lake's task this summer is to keep an eye on Kate, and Lake and Kate become real friends. She also meets and make friends with Garth;a skater (a boy who looks like a girl without his skater helmet) and Leo; the cool guy who is always doing laps at the pool behind the Rat's house. During her stay in sunny L.A., Katy learns about the punk rock music scene that the Rat and Lake are involved in. And her summer is getting more and more awesome..
Beige is just a fantastic novel! Don't let the punk theme scare you off. The book is a fast paced read from Katy's point of view, and the way she tells the story is just great! This is the first novel I have read by Cecil Castellucci, but I have heard from many other readers that all her books are just as awesome as Beige, so it certainly will not be the last!
