No turning back by Beverley Naidoo

The twelve year old Sipho decides to run away from home, away from his abusive stepfather and his weak mother. Sipho lands in Johannesburg, and meets other boys of his age who live on the streets. He meets Jabu, who lives on the street to and they become friends. Jabu learns Sipho how to survive on the streets and how he can earn money by running errands for people. Their life on the streets of Johannesburg is tough and they have to survive the bitter cold and the lack of food.
One day, Sipho meets a white girl, Judy, and her family. The family decides to take Sipho in, so he can work for Judy's father, Mr. Danny. Sipho has to sell t-shirts in a street stand. But he earns little with it, only his shelter with the family. David, Mr.Danny's son, dislikes Sipho. Through him Sipho hears that Mr.Danny only took him in so he could work for him. Sipho is dissapointed and leaves shortly after that without a notice to the family. Shortly after that, he
hears about a school for streetchildren from his friend Jabu, who attends the school too.
He is accepted, and thehe school administration decides to look for Sipho's mother to tell her where Sipho is, but they find a burned down house. Will Sipho find his mother again?
No turning back is an impressiing children's book about living on the street in South Africa. It is very realistic and it keeps you page turning till the last page. Sad book but beautiful to read!
