Tra is an eleven year old boy in post-war Vietnam. His father and the head of the village commitee are not on very good speaking terms. His father worries about the safety of his family. Tra is a nice boy who loves to play with his friends, altough some friends are acting very strange to him, because of his father.
His family stands before a difficult decision:to stay in the war torn Vietnam, or to take the risk and to step on a weak ship with 44 other refugees to excape illegaly to Hong Kong. Tra's father decides to go, when the threatening of the village commitee head officer increases. The journey to Hong Kong is dangerous and scary and with many risks, and as a reader you keep turning pages to know if they reach and will be let in in Hong Kong. Very impressive.
