April and the dragon lady by Lensey Namioka

April has to look after her grandmother, who is diagnosed with diabetes and because of that acts strange sometimes. April and her family are Chinese, and April has difficulties with the Chinese traditional values of her grandmother(who lives with April's family, a custom in Chinese families), and the American way of live.
Her brother Harry always makes excuses when April asks him to look after grandmother, so she can go out with her boyfriend Steve. Her father has other things to worry about than who is looking after grandmother, especially now he has a new girlfriend.
April fights for her indipendence, and will it be enough to last her relationship with Steve?
A very beautiful book about life between the Chinese and American culture. A perfect read for everyone interested in the Chinese culture. Lensey Namioka created just an excellent teen read. Outstanding book!

  1. This sounds like an interesting book. First generation immagrints often have a hard time adjusting into the American culture, as I've seen in my own family.
