In this new book in the #Frontdesk series by Kelly Yang, Mia Tang is going to San Francisco's Chinatown with her mom and best friend Lupe. Mia is going to join a.journalism summer camp at the San Francisco Tribune newspaper. She is excited to start but also a bit nervous, especially when it turns out that there are privileged kids with agents , who are in more favour of getting their work published and even paid more for than Mia's diverse group, who only seem to be accepted in the summer camp to make the newspaper 's image look good , while Mia and her new friends from the group work ten times harder and have more interesting topics to cover. Meanwhile , at the Chinatown hotel of the Luk family where Mia stays, trouble breaks out when their chef de cuisine walks away, just shortly before a big important banquet. Mia comes to the rescue by calling Jason and Hank from the Calivista motel. Mia had a longtime crush on her best friend Jason
But trouble arises when Jason meets Mia's new friend Emma from the fortune cookie factory and he seems to like her a lot and starts dating her. When things not go as planned too at the summer camp, Mia and her friends decide it is time for action to not be silenced and start their own printed newspaper; The Scoop! Lots of action, and lots of troubles for Mia to tackle, but in the end, everything falls into place..
This is just another magnificent new book in this already phenomenal series. I personally think this is the best middle grade/ tween series out there. The book never has a dull moment, the storyline is fantastic, the cast of characters is realistic and just great. And the setting in Chinatown felt so real, also because the author doesn't shy away from the real problems Chinatown faces today, and low income families that have to live in SRO. ( single room occupancy)
I loved this series from the first book on, and I thought it couldn't get any better, but the previous book and this one again , proves that it can! I am already looking forward to the next books!!
