Successful author Burton St Clair gives a talk about his newest book at the local fictional English Fethering town library and he invites his old friend Jude to come along after not haven't seen each other for twenty years, their friendship still seems good.It is a nice evening about the book with a few good glasses of wine. And Jude is very courteously brought back home by Burton.
But then the next morning, police is at Jude's doorstep. She is the last one to have seen Burton, and is now officially one of the suspects after Burton is found dead in his car.
She hasn't murdered him and is convinced to figure out herself how she can find who done it, and starts an investigation with her best friend Carol. They are just the perfect amateur sleuths for this job! Along the way, they find out more about Burton St. Clair and his past. He was quite a dandy type of man and has an ex- wife and some other people in his past who fit the profile of a murder. During the investigation, they also meet a few characters who don't neccesarily have much to do with Burton, but slowly lead to the lead suspect, untill they discover something that hit's the nail on the head..
Altough I didn't know this is new book in a long running series, I found the book charming, classy and entertaining. I really liked the small town setting in the fictional English village of Tethering and I could totally imagine the cool and cozy village library.
The characters where entertaining, and the storyline was brilliant and a perfect mystery one. It was written in a way that you just want to know what happens next and if Jude and Caroll will solve the mystery. The end was also wrapped up nicely. So, overall, this is a nice short mystery read. And if you didn't read the previous books, there is no man overboard as it can just be read as a standalone book.
