Since her parent's divorce, Cassie's live is an upside down chaos. Her mom cheated on her dad, and her dad had moved to Hong Kong. And now, her mom announces that they have to spent the summer on a sailing trip from Oregon to Mexico because her dad is going to rent out their house to coworkers, her world crashes for a second time. She isn't into this plan at all, certainly not with the knowing that someone else will be sleeping in her bedroom.
Once they are off in the Pacific Ocean, she had to adjust to their cramped living space, which is quite difficult because she has no room for herself and has to share it with er brother Drew. And to make things worse, soon after their departure, their boat gets stuck and isn't able to sail on till they found a solution for it. But then she meets Jonah, who sails on another boat in the group they are sailing together with. As soon as they have the chance when the boat makes a stop in California, they find themselves together in a fun tour through San Francisco, where Jonah originally is rom, and they have the best time. Cassie tries to keep him at a distance, the harder it is to fight the attraction. But back on the boat again, her mom makes a new announcement that truly makes her question even more her life at home, or what's left of it.
Overall this was an okay read. But I found it hard at some point to stay interested as a reader. The storyline was good to follow, but it didn't get much further then Cassie being annoyed about all the changes in her life, she meets Jonah and spends a short time in San Francisco with him which was nice, but then back again at the boat the problems are still there. Somehow it lacked depth and some sort of progress for the main character. She starts of as a stubborn teenager and during the book, when something doesn't go her way, she starts to whine and act pretty immature for someone her age.The ending left many things unresolved, which was somewhat dissapointing as I hoped for as we don't get to know where the family of three will be going to live after their sailing trip is over, as the house they lived in is going for sale.
I had high expectations of this book as I absolutelt love the books by this author, but it missed the strong and exciting plot as in her previous YA novel Wanderlost.
